Monday Words of the Day: homophone, misspelled In class: make a homophone table and look at misspelled words (their/they're/there, want/won't, to/too, advice/advise, break/brake, are/our, quite/quiet, know/no, new/knew, here/hear, were/where, right/write, your/you/re, who's/whose) Writing assignment: Use all of the homophones above in a notebooks entry. It can be a story, a poem, an essay or anything else as long as it uses the words in the correct way Tuesday Words of the Day: Sentence, Punctuation In class: Practise different types of sentences, using transition words and punctuation to make them longer. Become familiar with the different names and uses of punctuation marks. Writing assignment: Practise sentences in front of notebooks. Wednesday Words of the Day: Paragraph, topic In class: Re-cap what a paragraph is and why the word topic is important when writing paragraphs. Writing assignment: Write a paragraph, choosing a topic: My Favourite Food, Aliens, Relationships, Being a teenager. Thursday Words of the Day: Dialogue, monologue In class: Talking about conversations. How to have an interesting conversation and how to write it up, using sentences such as: "I was surprised that Yana thought ..." and "Daria made me see __________ in another way" and "We both agreed that ..." Writing assignment: Have a conversation with someone about something that interests you and then write up some of the interesting things that you discussed.
